Why study sociology in Erlangen?

On this page we offer you the opportunity to hear from our students themself on why they like studying in Erlangen and at our institute. The following report is by one of our students studying sociology as their bachelors degree:

„Studying sociology in Erlangen has its perks. The institute offers a wide spectrum of different areas of interest in sociology and the professors and lecturers are always open to widen their perspectives. They take great care to provide students with interesting seminars that change every semester. Due to this studying sociology never gets boring and you are being introduced to a variety of research. It introduces a mixture of classical social research but also newer perspectives and tries to connect sociology with other subjects of the humanities.

The student body is very well connected and I have found it very easy to make new friends even in higher or lower semesters due to the structure of how seminars can be visited. You have your lectures with students from your year but seminars hold a variety of years. This makes finding help and discussing topics very easy and even fun. The lecturers are very friendly and always open for discussion, questions, and critiques. They take great care to make studying here fun.

The city itself is very fun and vibrant. It is only a short train ride away from Nuremberg and Fürth, both big cities themselves and offers a variety of bars, cafés, parks and other fun activities. Erlangen is big enough to host the feeling of a huge cities but small enough to feel intimate. Of course you have to include big events like the Bergkirchweih but the christmas markets are a sight to behold as well.“
