Education and Course of Life

“Education and Course of Life” concentrates on the historical and systemic perspective on a persons course of life. This includes childhood, teenage years, adulthood, aging and the way of life looking at developmental and curricular stages, turning points and patterns of identity. “Course of life” is seen as the result of a historical process and takes modernisation into account. With modernisation, there is a higher demand when it comes to effort concerning biographical decisions, how education and studying is perceived, what subjectivity means and what biography can mean when looking at way of life and how life is perceived.

Education and Course of Life

Education and Course of Life concentrates on a historical and systemical perspective on the human course of life. This includes childhood, teenage year, adulthood, aging and their characteristic way of life, developmental stages, turning points, curricular stages and patterns of identity. This ‘course of life’ is seen as result of a historical process. It includes processes of modernization. Modernization demands a higher effort and distinction ofbiographical decisions and reflexion, educational processes, daily life and routines and future development. This is why the module “Education and Course of Life” concentrates on social research based on identifying and connecting a biographical and a life course perspective.

Additionally macrosociological issues concerning the course of life and educational sociology are a subject of discussion at the institute. This includes the following topis: sociology of population, micro social questions concerning the formation and development of identity.

We researching topics concerning macro-sociological research concerning way of life and education, as well as questions concerning sociology of societies. Additionally we are looking at micro-sociology concerning construction and development of identity.
