Internship

Information regarding the mandatory internship

Heads up: Only mandatory for students studying sociology as their first subject!

Taking a look at the subject and examination regulations students studying sociology as part of the two-subject programm and as their first subject have to do a mandatory internship (2 months, about 300 to 320 hours) in a field relating to socioloy. The internship should be based on a 40-hour work week and will be acredited with 10 ECTS-Points as part of the key qualifications. You yourself are responsible to find your internship. These can be found on different websites like the job portal of the FAU and the sociological exchange on studon or a multitude of job portals.

Requirements to credit the internship:

  • Valuation as a job-related activity: Talk to the study advisory about your internship and the corresponding tasks you will be completing during your time there before you start the internship. The study advisory will decide during this talk if your internship fits the criteria of a “job-related activity”. If needed you will get confirmation that you have to do this internship as part of your degree. Some internships need such a confirmation
  • Internship-Report: During your internship you will have to write a report. You should write about how your tasks evolved and how they fit into the range of tasks of your employer. You should also reflect on how the internship fits into your own studies. The report should be about three to five pages long. You will find a guideline at the bottom of the page (written in German).
  • Confirmation of Internship/Internship Certificate: After finishing your internship your employer usually provides you with a conformation of internship (including proof of the confirmed work-hours) or an internship certificate, that entails the duration, type and extent of your tasks.
  • Submission: Hand in your Internship-Report and the Confirmation of Internship/Internship Certificate as well as the Proof of working hours. All of those documents have to be handed into the study-advisory. They will start the process on the crediting of your internship with the examinations office so that your ECTS-Points can be credited.
