Sociology as One-Subject-Course can be devided into three phases.

1st Phase (Semester 1 & 2);The first two semesters will be structured with the help of different lectures: Introduction into Sociology, Social Structure Analysis,  Sociological Theories and Methods of Emprical Social Research. Additionally you will be introduced into one thematic area of sociology (Comparative Social Analyis / Education and Course of Life / Culture and Communication / Work and Organization)

2nd Phase (Semester 3 & 4); These semesters include the deeping of understanding of sociological theories and methods as well as statistics. Additionally you will be introduced into another thematic area of sociology (Comparative Social Analyis / Education and Course of Life / Culture and Communication / Work and Organization)

3rd Phase (Semester 5 & 6) These semesters include the deepening study of one of the areas of interest at the institute (Comparative Social Analyis / Education and Course of Life / Culture and Communication / Work and Organization / Sociological Theories / Empirical Social Research. Students studying sociology as their first subject will have to complete the Module “Wahlbereich Intern”. Für die Studierenden im Erstfach kommt hier das frei wählbare Modul Wahlbereich intern dazu. Their bachelors thesis will mark the end of their program by working on a research project by themselves.

You can study sociology as part of a Two-Subject Program. This will have to be combined with another course offered by the Faculty of Philosophy.

If you chose sociology as your first subject you will have to complete 80 ECTS and your Bachelors Thesis, as well as the key qualifications spanning 20 ECTS. 10 ECTS points will have to be completed by doing a 2-month internship in a fitting occupation. Should you choose sociology as your second subject, you will have to complete 70 ECTS in sociology. Compared to only studying sociology, you won’t have to complete a course in another subject offered at the Faculty of Philosophy (“Wahlbereich intern”).
