One-Subject BA Sociology

Sociology as One-Subject-Course can be devided into three phases.

1st Phase (Semester 1 & 2); The first two semesters will be structured with the help of different lectures: Introduction into Sociology, Social Structure Analysis,  Sociological Theories and Methods of Emprical Social Research. Additionally you will be introduced into two different thematic areas of sociology (Comparative Social Analyis / Education and Course of Life / Culture and Communication / Work and Organization)

2nd Phase (Semester 3 & 4); These Semesters include the deeping of understanding of sociological theories and methods as well as statistics. Students will have to choose another courses provided by the faculity in a different course of study. The 3rd and 4th semester include the start of deeping the students unterstanding in two chosen area of sociology (Comparative Social Analyis / Education and Course of Life / Culture and Communication / Work and Organization / Sociological Theories / Empirical Social Research)

3rd Phase (Semester 5 & 6); The deeping of knowledge in two chosen areas of sociology will be continued and the student will specialize themselves in either sociological theories or Methods of Emprical Social Research. Their bachelors thesis will mark the end of their program by working on a research project by themselves.

The one major bachelors degree consists of 140 ECTS (15 Modules and the bachelors thesis). Additionally to their key qualifications 10 ECTS-points have to be acchieved in another subject offered at the faculty of social sciences and philosophy. Key qualifications (30 ECTS) have to be additionally acquired, this has to include a two-month internship in a fitting occupation. It is being adivsed to take other courses that are designed to built qualifications fitting job descriptions for sociology and preparing students for their subsequent entry into the professional world. Students will have to complete 5 ECTS points in the Module “Academic English”. Additionally to their key qualifications 10 ECTS-points have to be acchieved in another subject offered at the faculty of social sciences and philosophy.
