Requirements and Application

The Formalities of Admission and Application

The masters degree is designed for about 30 students per semester.

If you want to apply for the masters programm you should have a bachelors degree in sociology (grade at least 2.5). Applicants with a final grade, relating to the case of § 34 Abs. 4 ABMStPO/Phil, of 2.51 to 3.00 will be offered an interview; other applicants will not be able to move to the next stage of application and will receive a denial letter with corresponding justification. Applicants with a different degree have to be able to proove sociological knowledge of at least 50 ECTS-points and are able to apply to acquire additional socioloical skills. Students studying a bachelors degree can be approved as well if they are able to proove that they have acquired 140 ECTS-points. But this is not recommened as the work load during the masters degree is extremely high and there will be no time to catch up on courses in the bachelors degree.

The application is carried out online on the platform campo.fau.de. Information concerning the requirements of the university, documents that have to be handed in and deadlines of application can be found on the Homepage of the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg.

Additionally to the documents required by the university (see Application Masters Degree) you will be required to hand in a paper that you have written during your bachelors degree. Should you have not written one during this you will be asked to hand in your bachelors thesis.
