Structure and Concept

Concept of the Study Programm

The masters degree of sociology is designed to take four semesters and is carried out by the institute of sociology. This course of study is designed around research with a total of 120 ECTS-Points, 20 ECTS-points have to be acquired through an additional subject.

Course Details:

  1. You will have to take the following modules:
    • Module T “Sociological Theory” (10 ECTS)
    • M_Quant “Quantitative Methods” (5 ECTS)
    • M_Qual “Qualitative Methods” (5 ECTS)
    • FS_I “Research Seminar I” (10 ECTS)
    • FS_II “Research Seminar II” (10 ECTS)
    • Modules FP_I-III “Research Profile I-III” (10 ECTS each)
    • Additional Studies I and II (10 ECTS each)
    • Module MA “Masters Thesis” (30 ECTS)
  2. An individual focus point of research is possible to choose three modules in the research fields work and organisation, education and course of life, culture and communication as well as comparative social analysis. These will counted as the Module “Research Profile I-III”. They usually consist of one of the research fields or multiple of them. Two out of the three modules have the possibility to be swapped for an “Integrated Masters Course” (IMK). These consist of an Advanced Seminar (HS) chosen from the fields of interest at the institute als well as one of the Post-Graduate Seminar (OS).
  3. In your second or their semester one of the modules FP_I-III can be swapped for an additional masters cours or an integrated masters course concerning the topic of sociological theories with 10 ECTS-points.
  4. The additional studies can be part of the teaching offered by the masters social economy: “empirical economics of sociolohy”, “educational sociology” and “sociology of health”.
